Plum Sauce


1 kg stoned plums, halved
1 brown onion roughly chopped
1 tbsp finely grated ginger
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp salt
1 tsp Chinese five-spice
1/2 red chilli, finely chopped


1. Combined all the ingredients in a large saucepan, bring to boil.
2. Reduce heat and cook for 30 minutes till plums are stewed.
3. Blend the plums well.
4. Pour into sterilised jars or bottles and seal well.
5. Lable and date

Tastes great with pork steaks or for chicken sausage dipping sauce. You can also use it in your winter beef stews.
